Description.

Sculpture carved from dark-toned jade, with brown and black veins that accentuate the modelling of the animal's body. It represents a buffalo reclining on its legs, its back gently arched and its head turned to one side. The finely detailed face features large, rounded eyes and curling horns projecting backward. The mane frames the head and reinforces its imposing character. The polished surface highlights the quality of the stone and its antique patina. Qing Dynasty (1644–1912) or later.
