Description.
Ritual sculpture carved in the round from dark celadon green jade with grayish hues and areas of brown, reddish, and ochre patina. The piece represents an anthropomorphic deity with an elongated, prominent head, possibly alluding to a ceremonial headdress or hybrid features, and a schematic body in a squatting position or with bent knees. Hongshan culture (c. 4700-2900 BC).
