Description.
Carved white jade with areas of ochre-coloured patina. It depicts a figure in a kneeling position, with hands on legs, holding an animal head. It has zoomorphic features, with almond-shaped eyes, a sharp nose and horns or ears extending backwards. The body is profusely decorated with engraved motifs of linear bands and geometric volutes. Shang dynasty (c. 1600–1046 BC) or later.
