Description.
Carved from celadon-green nephrite jade with extensive areas of natural patina in shades of ochre and reddish brown. The piece depicts an owl with outstretched wings in a frontal, symmetrical composition. It has schematic features, with large eyes and a pronounced beak. The wings and tail feature fine geometric incisions that simulate plumage. With patina due to age. Hongshan culture (approx. 4000–3000 BC) or later.
