Description.
A finely carved white jade censer cover. The design shows a vegetal framework with large lotus leaves, interspersed with herons in different postures, all intricately carved with incisions that adorn the plumage and add texture. The base is flat, oval, with perforations that probably allowed it to be fitted or attached to a body. The piece shows great technical skill in the treatment of volume and negative space. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
