Description.
Crafted from jade with a yellowish celadon hue and a deep patina in shades of dark brown and ochre, a result of its age. The piece features a complex openwork composition of two intertwined lionesses in a close embrace, with their bodies arranged in opposite directions.
It is notable for the meticulous rendering of the anatomy: sinuous bodies decorated with reliefs of curling clouds (yunwen), paws with powerful claws and heads with pronounced jaws. Warring States period (475–221 BC) or later.
Size: 7 x 3.6 x 5.1 cm
Weight: 81 g
Provenance: Collection of Tommy Lam, Hong Kong, since 1980.
