Description.
Flat ornamental jade plaque with irregular contours. The surface is carved in relief using a fretwork technique, depicting an abstract and schematic representation of a dragon and phoenix with sinuous bodies, volutes and sharp points. The material exhibits a greyish celadon green tone, with areas of brown patina. Hongshan culture (c. 4700-2900 BC). or later.
