Description.
A white jade seal with reddish stains caused by natural ageing of the stone, with a circular base and a long tubular body. It shows, on an elongated pedestal decorated with archaic beasts in relief, the figure of a semi-human being, with bird-like features, kneeling and holding an instrument in his hands, which is placed over his mouth. The face has a serene expression, with open eyes, a sharp nose and square ears. The entire body is decorated with incised archaic geometric motifs. This figure was traditionally used in the Shang dynasty as a representation of the high status, divine power and military power of the emperor, among others. Shang Dynasty (1700 - 1100 BC) or later.
