Description.
A brush rest carved from translucent green jadeite with delicate lighter hues and areas of greater opacity. The piece depicts a carefully modeled praying mantis, whose anatomical details include prominent eyes, articulated limbs in a resting position, and slender wings folded over the back. The back and sides of the leaf are incised to accurately simulate natural veins. The polished texture gives a smooth, glossy finish that highlights the quality of the stone and the mastery of the carving. This piece is not only functional as a brush rest but also a decorative object that reflects the symbolism associated with patience, concentration, and acuity. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
