Description.
Celadon-white jade, with greenish veins and areas of ochre and reddish-brown patina, produced by the natural passage of time. The piece consists of a quadrangular body and a highly intricate upper finial, dominated by a group of intertwined ‘chilong’ dragons carved in vigorous high relief. The four sides of the base are decorated with ‘taotie’ motifs and curling clouds, engraved with great precision. The base bears an inscription in seal script (zhuanshu) deeply carved into the surface. Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD) or later.
