Description.

An imposing Shoushan stone seal, masterfully carved to depict a complex ensemble of ‘mythical beasts’. The upper part of the piece is lavishly adorned with dragons, phoenixes and celestial creatures emerging from a setting of rocks, pine trees and fruit. The stone displays a rich natural polychromy with veining in shades of red, honey and cream. On one of its sides, it retains labels bearing the inscriptions ‘御赐’ and ‘和硕怡亲王章’, highlighting its significance as an ornament designed for the nobility. The square base features an inscription carved with characters for stamping, among which traces of red sealing wax remain.

It is accompanied by its original dark hardwood box, carved on all sides with a pattern of clouds and bats.
