Orthodox icon ‘Cuadripartita’, 19th century

Tempera and gold leaf on panel. It depicts four scenes (quadripartite) bringing together various venerated iconographies and saints. The central figure of the composition is the Crucifixion of Christ, located in the lower centre, with a skull and bones beneath the cross (Calvary) and flanked by the Virgin Mary and Saint Mary Magdalene or Saint John. Obtained in Jerusalem, from an Orthodox church.
