Description.
Jade of intense green hue, with dark and reddish inclusions. The pair depicts guardian foo lions in a relaxed posture, with carved details that define their powerful musculature, half-open jaws and swirling manes. Their faces have an expression of protective ferocity, and a large lingzhi branch protrudes from their jaws. The two figures stand on carved and openwork wooden bases with plant motifs. There is patina from ageing. Qing dynasty (1644–1911).
