Description.
Greyish-white nephrite jade with distinct traces of iron oxide and an antique patina. Carved in the form of two birds in dynamic poses. One of the pieces depicts a bird with a long, sinuous neck, its plumage arranged in overlapping layers, and a crest that blends into openwork plant motifs. The second piece depicts a bird with a more compact body, its wings spread and its plumage finely carved to resemble scales or feathers, also surrounded by openwork undulating stems. Liao Dynasty (916–1125) or later.
