Description.

Figure representing a snow lion, a mythical animal from Tibet. Made of embossed gilded copper, hollow inside, with a bronze head. It shows the beast in a dynamic posture, with its front legs raised, jaws open, prominent eyes, and a flaming mane and tail where traces of reddish and orange pigment can be seen. It retains much of its original gilded finish and traces of polychrome in red and orange tones. It stands on a modern metal base.

The piece was part of the backrest of an ornate throne that would have surrounded the figure of a Buddha or bodhisattva.

Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Oriental Art on March 14, 2003, and signed by specialist Patrick Dupont.
