Description.
A white porcelain sculpture of the bodhisattva Guanyin, standing on a base of billowing clouds. The figure is richly modelled, with an elaborate hairstyle in a high bun topped by a cocoon-like headdress. The face, with its smooth, symmetrical features, shows a serene expression with half-closed eyes and a slight contemplative smile. Guanyin wears a robe with wide sleeves and long pleats that flow down her body. He wears a pearl necklace with a floral pendant on his chest. In her left hand she holds a sceptre or brush. The porcelain is ivory-white in tone, with a uniform glossy glaze characteristic of Dehua kilns. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
