Description.
Chinese porcelain decorated in underglaze blue. It has a globular body and broad shoulders that taper towards a slightly flared base, with two handles in the shape of lion heads in relief on the shoulders. The decoration is arranged in horizontal bands: in the central band, a scene of Buddhist lions playing with balls amidst undulating ribbons stands out, alongside the ‘Eight Treasures’. The neck and foot are decorated with bands of stylised lotus petals and cloud motifs, whilst the shoulder features a frieze of spiralling peonies. Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368) or later.
