Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner wristwatch, 1950s

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner watch, reference 5508, known among collectors as the ‘Small Crown’. Round stainless steel case with black unidirectional rotating bezel graduated in minutes, domed Plexiglas crystal and Oyster crown without guards. Matte black dial with applied luminescent hour markers, Mercedes-style hands and central seconds hand. Rolex calibre 1530 automatic movement, water resistant to 100 metres (330 feet). Fitted with a stainless steel Oyster bracelet with folding clasp.

This model represents one of the earliest and purest versions of the Submariner, very close to the famous 6538, known as the ‘James Bond Submariner’, worn by Sean Connery in the early 007 films. Its sober and balanced design makes it an iconic piece in the history of sports watchmaking.

The watch shows general signs of wear. In working order. 1950s or later.
