Ruyao glazed ceramic brush rest, Song dynasty

Made of stoneware, covered with an opaque, creamy glaze in a sky-blue hue characteristic of Ru kilns (Ru yao). The piece has an elegant organic shape in the form of a stylised leaf, with pointed ends and edges that rise gently to accommodate the brushes. The surface displays subtle craquelure running across the entire piece. Song dynasty (960–1279) or later.
