Description.
A jade ruyi consisting of an elongated, slightly curved body with a trapezoidal cross-section, carved in deep green jade with areas of ochre or amber patina. The end has a triangular-shaped openwork geometric motif that suggests a cord or pendant fastening system. The lobed head of the ruyi incorporates a white jade plaque set with carved decoration in low relief, composed of auspiciously inspired curling clouds framing a taotie mask. This combination of materials and the contrasting colours of deep green and milky white add to the visual richness of the piece. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
