‘Saint Vincent Ferrer’ and granting of indulgences, 20th century

Carved wood, polychrome, plaster and richly embroidered fabrics. This religious sculpture is a piece of great historical and artistic value. The saint is depicted wearing the habit of the Order of Preachers, consisting of a white silk tunic and a black velvet cape, both profusely decorated with gold thread embroidery featuring plant and floral motifs. He wears a chiselled metal halo and, above it, a phylactery with the inscription “TIMETE DEUM”.
The image is accompanied by an original document granting indulgence. In this document, Juan Cardenal Benlloch y Vivó, Archbishop of Burgos between 1919 and 1926, grants two hundred days of indulgence to the faithful who pray before this specific image of ‘Saint Vincent Ferrer’, signing the decree in the Archbishop's Palace in Burgos.
