Crafted from liulí glass in a deep, translucent reddish-pink hue, it features a polished finish that highlights the refraction of light through its complex three-dimensional structure. The work depicts the mystical union of the deity Kalachakra and his consort Vishvamata in the yab-yum position, symbolising the union of time and infinite wisdom.
The sculpture is notable for the meticulous detail of its multiple arms, which hold various ritual attributes, and for the vigorous relief of the halo of flames framing the figures. Both deities stand upon a lobed lotus base, trampling the figures of Ananga and Rudra, who represent worldly obstacles. Tang Dynasty (618–907) or later.
