Description.
Pair of wine coolers (rafraîchissoirs) or ice buckets attributed to the prestigious Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres. The pieces are made of high-quality porcelain and feature elegant neoclassical decoration with garlands, coulisses (bows) and delicate hand-painted floral motifs. Manufacturer's mark on the base.
This object would have contained ice or ice water to cool bottles or small glasses. Changes in the strict gastronomic protocol of 18th-century France under the reign of Louis XV meant that bottle coolers were placed within reach of diners.
