Shoushan elliptical seal ‘Beast’, Qing dynasty

Honey-yellow Shoushan stone. The base has an elliptical profile topped by the figure of a lion-like beast with its head turned. It shows meticulous details in the mane, face and musculature, defined by incisions. An incised and inked inscription can be seen on the base. The base contains raised characters for stamping. With textile pedestal and custom-made box. Qing dynasty (1644–1912).
