Shoushan figure ‘Sage with ruyi’, Qing dynasty

Sculpture made of ivory and amber-coloured Shoushan stone. It depicts a seated sage, with his legs bent and a serene expression, dressed in a long tunic with fine folds and incised decorations with gold details. The sage holds a ruyi sceptre on his knee, in a contemplative attitude. The figure rests on a sinuous openwork wooden base.
