Shoushan seal, “Phoenix and Dragons”, Qing Dynasty

A large-scale carved Shoushan stone, in shades of honey and cream with a natural patina. It features a complex scene in high relief depicting an imperial dragon and a phoenix vying for the flaming pearl, surrounded by clouds and other minor mythical beasts. The meticulous carving masterfully defines the creatures’ scales, plumage and folds. On the front, it retains an inventory label bearing the inscription ‘乾隆四十年收’.

It is accompanied by its original wooden transport case, featuring inscriptions and inventory marks. Qing Dynasty (1644–1912).or later.
