Description.
Carved Shoushan stone. The piece has a long, square base topped by the image of a seated mythical beast with an alert expression. The animal has vigorous features and incised and embossed details. One side has an incised inscription. The base contains characters engraved in seal style with traces of cinnabar pigment. It comes with a custom-made pedestal and box. Qing dynasty (1644-1912).
