Shrigley and Hunt, leaded glass window ‘Archangel Saint Michael’, 19th-20th century

Vertical stained glass triptych made by the prestigious English manufacturer Shrigley and Hunt. The composition is divided into three panels. The central panel depicts an angel in an attitude of proclamation, framed by a structure of intertwined circles and plant motifs and a phylactery with the inscription “I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE”. It is framed by two vertical stained glass windows with semicircular tops featuring rich ornamentation based on Gothic architecture. In the centre, two phylacteries complete the biblical passage from Mark 10:14: ‘SUFFER LITTLE CHILDREN TO COME’ and ‘UNTO ME AND FORBID THEM NOT’.

Provenance:
· Acquired in Kendal, Lake District, UK, from a local antique dealer, who reported that it came directly from a church undergoing restoration and provided information on the manufacture of the piece.
