Spanish School, 20th century, Olot Workshops, “Infant Jesus of Prague”

A polychrome wooden sculpture that has been repainted in its entirety at a later date. On her head she wears a large golden royal crown topped with a cross, and in her left hand she holds the Christian orb, or globus cruciger (a sphere topped with a cross), symbolizing her spiritual dominion over the world. She is dressed in the traditional liturgical attire associated with this devotion. All the garments feature rich ornamental gold embroidery. Bearing the maker’s mark “Olotense/Olot” on the back.
