Description.
Rectangular plaque of spinach green jade with dark veins and speckles. It features a complex relief carving depicting a scene with eight Arhats (enlightened beings in Buddhism) in a rocky landscape. Each figure is shown with individualized attributes and expressions, all defined with incised lines and soft volumes. Intercalated between the figures are extensive engraved and gilded calligraphic inscriptions, which contain poems or prayers dedicated to each Arhat. Qing dynasty (1644–1912).
