Press 'Program an autobid'in order to confirm
A superb circular panel carved in spinach-green jade, deep and homogenous. The main surface is finely carved in high relief with a detailed literary scene in a natural setting. It depicts a group of scholars seated around a table under a pavilion of traditional architecture, surrounded by flowering trees and rock formations. Around them, servants and attendants participate or listen attentively. The other side of the panel depicts a setting dominated by a river between mountains and a boat with two figures in it. On the mainland, stylized willow and pine trees, winding paths and a small raised pavilion are visible.
The jade disc is mounted on a reddish wooden base, carved with vegetal decoration and auspicious animals. Cranes, deer and pine trees can be distinguished. The cloud-like scrolls on the arms of the mount reinforce the Taoist symbolism of the scene. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
