Spinach green jade figure ‘Buddha in the grotto’, Qing dynasty

Intense green jade with dark speckles. The piece depicts a scene of great spirituality. It centres on the image of a Buddha in the lotus position on a rocky base inside a cave. The rugged cave extends to the reverse of the piece, adorned with elegant leaves, lingzhi mushrooms and flowers. The piece rests on a carved wooden base and shows signs of patina due to ageing. Qing dynasty (1644–1911).
