A jade carving of deep green jade with fine darker veins. It shows the representation of Guanyin, the deity of mercy and compassion in the Buddhist tradition, seated in a meditative posture, in lotus position, on an ornamented base that simulates a lotus flower. The bodhisattva shows a serene and compassionate expression, holding a small vessel in one of her hands, a common iconography representing the nectar of wisdom. The carving is notable for the detailed work on the folds of the garments, which fall elegantly over her body, as well as for the delicacy of the ornaments that decorate her headdress. On the sides, there are undulating motifs that evoke clouds or flames. Qing dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
