Spinach-green jade ‘Guanyin’, Qing Dynasty

Natural jade of an intense, deep spinach green colour, with flecks of dark magnetite scattered across the surface. It depicts the deity Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, in a standing posture of great elegance and balance. She appears with an expression of profound serenity, holding a delicate mala of spherical beads in her hands. The work on the robes is particularly skilful, with flowing folds.
