Description.
A pair of female ritual masks (Mwana Pwo or similar), from the Chokwe and Luena peoples of Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Carved from wood with fine incised facial scarification (cingelyengelye on the forehead), almond-shaped eyes and half-open mouths with filed teeth. They retain their original headdresses made of cord and braided, knotted fibres, emulating traditional hairstyles.
Mask sizes: 21 x 26 x 16 cm; 23 x 21 x 14 cm
