Description.
A hinged ceremonial bracelet comprising twenty-eight polyhedral beads with a lobed profile, carved from two-coloured agate of the ‘green skin and red flesh’ variety (Lüpi Hongrou Mazu). Each bead features a complex three-dimensional geometric carving in the shape of a ‘Dragon’s Keel/Bone’ with three eyes (Longgu San Yan – 龙骨3眼), making use of the mineral’s natural stratification. This form, combined with the symbolism of the three celestial eyes, confers a strong sense of magical protection. Liao Dynasty (916–1125) or later.
Bead diameter: 15 mm
Weight: 68.14 g
