Description.
Pure white jade. It depicts a round figure of the deity Guanyin in a graceful, sinuous posture, flanked by figures of children (shancai) in attitudes of devotion and play. Her face has an expression of infinite compassion and serenity, framed by a tiara and a veil that descends over her shoulders. The piece is set on an imposing purple sandalwood (Zitan) base, masterfully carved with lotus motifs, fretwork, and flames. Qing dynasty (1644–1911).
