Description.
White jade with areas of amber patina. It depicts a kneeling figure with hands resting on the lap. It has solemn features with almond-shaped eyes, a broad nose, and an elaborate headdress with a stepped profile. Noteworthy is the openwork dorsal appendage in the shape of a curved volute that extends from the nape of the neck to the back. It shows patina due to ageing. Shang dynasty (c. 1600–1046 BC) or later.
