Description.
White jade with areas of reddish-ochre patina. The piece depicts an anthropomorphic figure in a kneeling position, holding a small beast in its lap, with a solemn face, almond-shaped eyes and a dragon-shaped headdress. The large rear wings are decorated with fine incisions of geometric motifs and volutes. Shang dynasty (approx. 1600–1046 BC) or later.
