Description.
Sculpture carved in translucent white jade depicting Guanyin, the bodhisattva of compassion, in an attitude of prayer. She is shown seated in a lotus posture on a flower-shaped base of the same name, with both hands clasped in front of her chest in the Anjali mudra, a gesture of veneration and spiritual recollection. The figure wears a softly folded robe with a hood over her head, and the facial features are serene and harmonious. The surface of the work is polished and smooth, with slight natural ochre tones on the reverse. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
