Description.
A translucent white jade sculpture representing Guanyin, deity of compassion. The figure is shown seated with legs bent, on a wavy base, in a relaxed posture, holding in her left hand a flower stalk that rises to a large lotus flower at her side. She wears a softly folded robe that falls naturally over her legs and arms. Her serene face is accompanied by a raised chignon, framed by an almond-shaped nimbus. The back is smooth and slightly curved. The jade is uniformly white with some soft streaks and areas of ochre patina. Qing dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
