Description.
A sculpture carved in white jade of uniform tone with light natural ochre veins on the lower part. It depicts a Mandarin duck with an elongated, upright neck and finely engraved plumage on the body and wings, suggesting delicate chiselling. The bird, a traditional symbol of marital fidelity in Chinese culture, is elegantly depicted in a serene and stylised pose. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
