Description.
A translucent white jade sculpture depicting a recumbent Fo dog. The figure has a thick, robust body, with limbs tucked in, and the head turned in a watchful attitude. The facial features are finely sculpted, emphasizing the slanted eyes and half-open jaws showing the sharp fangs, all framed by a stylized mane of curly hair. The body shows smooth, curved incisions on the back, legs and shoulders that mark the beast's anatomy. The tail, curved in a spiral, rests on the hind leg. The piece has a perforation in the side, possibly for suspension or mounting. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
