Press 'Program an autobid'in order to confirm
A sculpture carved in translucent white jade depicting Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha, in a meditative pose. The figure is seated on a base in the form of a lotus flower with well-defined petals, a symbol of spiritual purity, in the posture of vajrasana meditation. The hands rest on the lap, palms up and fingers extended, in the ritual gesture of the dhyana mudra, associated with mental concentration and enlightenment. The oval face, with a compassionate expression and half-closed eyes, is framed by the characteristic curls that cover the head, while the flowing robe with its broad lines exposes part of the chest and falls symmetrically over the legs. The jade work shows an excellent level of polish, with a smooth, even texture and light natural veins characteristic of the stone. Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) or later.
