Description.
A carved jade plaque of uniform white with light natural veins. It has a sinuous outline and is decorated in bas-relief with two symmetrical figures of phoenixes facing each other. The birds, a symbol of virtue and harmony, are depicted with prominent heads with curved beaks, pierced eyes and stylized crests. The body is decorated with curvilinear scroll motifs and perforated contours that accentuate its ornamental character. The reverse retains the mirror decoration. Qing dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
