White jade rock ‘Landscape and Poem’, Qing dynasty

White nephrite jade, covered by an intense reddish and amber patina. The work has the shape of a natural rock with rounded edges. The surface is divided into two narrative registers: the front shows a bas-relief carving of a mountainous landscape with ancient pine trees and steep cliffs in the lower part, crowned by a long incised poem that extends to the back. It shows patina due to ageing. It comes with a custom-made base and box lined with polychrome brocade silk. Qing dynasty (1644–1911).
