Description.
Sculpture carved in white jade of a uniform tone, depicting in detail two monkeys, a mother and her young, in a serene and affectionate pose. The older monkey, with an expressive face and large eyes, is seated with legs bent, holding a lingzhi branch that the younger monkey is reaching for. The figures are masterfully intertwined, with particular attention paid to the modelling of the limbs and the body posture, which reflects movement and naturalness. The lingzhi, a symbol of longevity and good fortune, is distinguished by its characteristic lobed shape. The sculpture is presented on a wooden base finely carved with undulating vegetal motifs. Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or later.
