Description.
Rectangular seal carved from white jade. The handle is sculpted in the round as a mythical beast in a seated pose, with open jaws and a detailed mane. The upper part of the plinth is decorated with a fine incised border. It displays areas of black patina or ‘水银沁’, creating a colour contrast. The seal matrix reveals an incised carving of two characters ‘吴汉’. Han dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD).
