Description.
White jade with subtle areas in ochre tones and traces of ritual cinnabar. The piece has a quadrangular base topped by a seated anthropomorphic figure with arms resting on bent knees, a ram's head and large curved horns. Noteworthy are the bas-relief carvings decorating the sides of the base with taotie mask patterns, as well as the fine archaic-style incisions decorating the anthropomorphic beast. Shang dynasty (approx. 1600–1046 BC) or later.
