Description.
Highly transparent white quartz with subtle natural inclusions and an antique patina. The piece depicts the face of a mythological beast with a serene expression, a broad snout and curled horns. It stands out for its profuse incised decoration with archaic scroll motifs and fine geometric lattices. It has a central longitudinal perforation. Eastern Zhou Dynasty (770–256 BC) or later.
